Hitting the Jackpot and Learning New Things

In the time since our last post, we hit the jackpot of minor childhood illnesses. For over a week, Will had a stomach virus, respiratory infection, and infections in both ears and both eyes, all simultaneously. Go big or go home, I guess. But, even with a fever up to 103, he was a trooper, and we're very thankful for these kind of minor illnesses in the grand scheme of things.


Today was the first day that Will was back to full speed, basically for the first time this month. It's always so great to see him laughing and playing so hard. Here he is in his new Batman outfit.



Will is learning new things all the time, and I think he's starting to show us some things he's secretly known for a while. On one of our sick days, Gus came home and put down his keys within Will's reach. Will immediately picked them up and walked to the front door.



For a few months, Will has been very interested in his MegaBlocks. But, mostly he just took apart things we built with them. Suddenly though, he's gotten the hang of actually building! Here's his first tower. Auburn University School of Engineering, here we come!

Moving On Up

This past Monday, on the one year anniversary of the day Will started school, he moved to the Toddler Room. He's adjusting pretty well, considering, and he seems to be having a lot of fun. So much fun that he's beyond exhausted when he gets home at night. We're hoping that adjusts soon, so that we can spend a little more time together during the week.
Less than a week in the TR, and he's already surprising us with great new talents. One day this week, I went to get Will from school, and just like every day I told him "Say bye-bye. Say bye-bye to Jacob." And, Will looked at Jacob and Jacob looked at Will, and Jacob waved and said 'bye-bye" and Will waved and SAID "bye-bye"!!! I tried to keep my excitement to a non-embarrassing level until I saw Jacob's mom outside. Then I screamed, she screamed. It was a proud Mommy moment. He did it again for Gus on Friday!

Will loves all his toys, but he also likes finding new things to imagine with around the house. Like wooden spoons and a metal (clean) trashcan.

Where You Come From...

Will's been doing great this week. He's learning how to climb down from the couch and other high places that make us nervous. He spent almost all day in the Toddler Room at school on Thursday, and his teachers said he's ready to transition. We're going to miss Ms. Kizzy, but she helps in the Toddler Room a lot. And, the TR looks like a lot of fun!

We got a lovely letter from my Great-Aunt Trixie this week. The first part read "Thank you for the pictures of Will. To say he is gorgeous would be an understatement. You should get him and agent and get him into modeling. I'm not just farting in the wind here. You don't waste good looks." Nothing like your Great-Aunt Trixie talking about farting in the wind to remind you where you come from.

Quick update

Will is doing great, and he's keeping us all on our toes. Yesterday, when I went to pick him up from school, I was called into the director's office. She told me all about the fire drill they'd had that afternoon...oh yeah, the one that Will caused when he pulled the fire alarm in his classroom.

Long story short, Will and the other kids in his class were getting ready to go outside, so they were in their rolling crib. (Its easier to get a class full of kids outside, some that walk and some that don't, this way.) The rolling crib was next to the alarm on the wall. I learned today that Will had been keeping an eye on that alarm for a while. When his teacher turned her head, he saw his chance. He apparently scooted the crib closer to the wall, and when the alarm went off, he started laughing. It turns out that he actually broke the lever, so maintenance had to come out to fix it. Luckily the alarm has a mute button!

Everyone at his school thinks the whole story is hilarious. Thankfully. Oh, we love our little monkey!!

Will loves reading. Here he is with some of his favorite books.

This is not a shock to anyone who knows Gus, but Will is quite the mini-techie. He's figured out how to get my iphone out of my purse pocket, and he thinks it is his. Here he is playing Elmo's Monster Maker.

Will started swim classes a few weeks ago. He is a little fish! He loves splashing, floating on his back and putting his face in the water. We're really excited that our friends Tiago and Gabi and Julie and Jacob joined the class, too. We're having such a great time!

We're still here!

Will is growing by leaps and bounds. When I was little, my PawPaw Robert would say that my dad was putting fertilizer in my shoes. I think he'd probably say the same about Will. He's 25 lbs, 30 inches.

Walking has quickly progressed to running and climbing the stairs. Its so cute when Gus chases Will around the house. They're adorable together.

There's nothing Will won't eat. He loves, loves, loves his fruit, and he goes through an entire family sized bowl of mixed fruit from Publix every week. He really loves his veggies, too, especially butter beans. Will likes to share food. He wants to try whatever is on our plates, and he wants to put food from his tray in our mouths. He'll even take food out of his mouth to share with us. That's probably only something a parent could truly appreciate. =)

He loves to read his books, especially a book from Aunt Lydia about farm animals. He loves the dog in the book, and he even kisses it! He's trying very hard to say "dog", and he just cracks up when we bark for him. We're trying to learn the farm animal sounds, and tonight, he said "baa" for the lamb and tried really hard to bark for the doggie, too!
